MISSION STATEMENT

Ships at a distance have every man's wish on board.
—Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God (1937)

Gallant Press began from a desire to provide a fair business model to both author and publisher. Instead of a one-size-fits all contract that almost always leaves the author grasping the short end of the stick, Gallant proposes to partner with the writer equally and design a win-win business relationship.

About us

Gallant Press is an independent publishing house located in the sprawling wasteland known as Los Angeles. We pride ourselves on delivering extremely high quality e-book, print and audio books. Gallant Press is a young company and will add other features as time permits.

  • 3500 BC

    Clay Tablets

Sumarians who lived in southern Mesopotamia around 3500 BC created a cuneiform alphabet and etched their script into clay tablets. The Cuneform script is the earliest known system for writing.

  • 500 BC

    Papyrus

Both Greeks and Romans used papyrus as writing material and the concept of 'books' was mentioned by ancient Greek scholars as early as the 5th century BC. Books were rolled in papyrus.

  • 1439 AD

    Gutenberg Press

German goldsmith, Johannes Gutenberg, develops the first moveable type technology and builds a printing press using hand mould letters. The printing press opened learning to the masses. The Gutenberg Bible was printed in 1455.

  • 1989

    Internet

The first commercial ISP (dial up access) was offered in 1989 and the World Wide Web (WWW) was born. The age of information took double shots of espresso as the capabilities of accessing data rocketed into lightspeed. For the first time, anyone sitting in front of a computer screen, could instantly (dial up, remember, so not so instantly…) access news and opinions from across the world.

Charges

Gallant Press is committed to protect authors and have them retain the rights to their own work.

Before the internet age and the e-book revolution writers were locked into publishing contracts that allowed publishers to control rights until the printing period had run its course. Afterward, the rights would revert back to the author if requested. But in the age of the eternal e-book, an author's work might never go "out of print" and thus rights can be retained by the publisher indefinitely.

At Gallant Press we license the rights we need in order to publish and market your book. We do NOT ask for rights that we don’t need. And we never ask for your copyright.

Editorial fees are charged in prepping the author's work for print. Author's can have editing done outside a publishing deal with Gallant and the charges are set forth below.
